Railway introduces on demand luggage pick, drop service – Times of India

LUCKNOW: In a desperate attempt to increase revenue making opportunities, northern railway zone has introduced on demand luggage pick and drop service.
The service will be app based, in which user can book for pick up of luggage from his/her house, hotel or any other place which will be dropped at the confirmed berth of the passenger in a train. The service will be vice-versa also. Railway has awarded a contract for the service to a private firm.
According to CPRO NR Deepak Kumar said, ” The app called BOW ( baggage on the wheel) will be available for Android & iPhone users. Passengers can book the service for carrying their luggage to railway station or to their home. Luggage will be picked up by the contractor in a secured manner and will be delivered to the coach/home as per booking preference of passenger.”
“The service would be helpful for senior citizens, physically challenged and women passengers travelling alone, claimed railway. The service will be first introduced New Delhi, Delhi junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Delhi Cantt., Delhi Sarai Rohilla, Ghaziabad and Gurgaon railway stations,” he added.
However railway has not confirmed the fare charges of weight of luggage which could be booked, but claimed that nominal fee would be charged. “It will not only be beneficial for passengers but will also enhance the scope of earning for railways with Rs 50 lakh per annum,” said CPRO.
